PAUL Broadbent is set to dip into Super League to find a few gems for the York RL revolution.

The prospective player-coach of the new York club - along with chief executive in waiting Steve Ferres - has extensive Super League contacts and reckons the two of them could bring to York a number of youngsters with top-flight credentials.

He said the plan would be to add on a few experienced stars - with Broadbent, 34, himself included in the line-up - and take the club forward from there.

"If we can pick out three, four or five young players who are floating around Super League clubs, we could turn them into quality players," he said.

"Steve has had success over the years with development structures, picking young players out and knowing which ones are going to come through. And that will be a real bonus for York.

"We want good players but we won't get players who just want to play for money. We want players who want to play for the club, be enthusiastic and take it places. If they are youngsters we expect them to want to create a career for themselves.

"It's going to be a building process. We will start off with young fellas full of enthusiasm and ability, and look to get a few experienced players around them.

"We will get a good base and then look to improve and go on from there."

He added: "I speak to Steve regularly and we have one or two players in mind. However, there's nothing cast in stone as it would be pointless until we're accepted into the league.

"Steve is a good bloke and knows his stuff. He has made a success at most clubs he's been involved in, in respect of fetching the right players in and getting things right, and there's no reason he won't do the same with York."

Broadbent, who is to leave Wakefield Trinity at the end of this season, will also lead on the field, for the first season at least.

"I don't know how many games I will play, although I hope to figure in quite a few," said the former Great Britain prop.

"If the younger fellas are doing a good job then we'll persevere with them, but I will be out there to help bring them along."
