WE enjoy a special relationship with the United States. Britain has gladly given this great country many things: the democratic ideal, air bases, Tracey Ullman. But why did we let them have the Kit Kat?
Almost from the moment Rowntree's sold the American rights for this classic confection to the Hershey corporation, it has sought to get them back.
Thirty-two years later the moment may be here. If Hershey is sold, Nestl regain the US Kit Kat. While still reaching out the hand of friendship, we will grab back our chocolate fingers - and not before time.
