AN EVENT which had to be postponed due to the wet weather chaos earlier this month finally took place in York this weekend.
The organisers of the fundraising Party at the Palace deemed it dry enough to reopen the gates at Bishopthorpe Palace on Saturday, and by all accounts the picnic went down a storm.
"The day went very well and between 500 and 600 people attended," palace manager Mary Murray told the Evening Press. "It didn't rain, the sun came out and the Archbishop went around greeting everybody about three times! "Lots of people brought picnics and we had the most delicious cream teas."
The weather was clearly by divine approval, and visitors enjoyed themselves so much at the archbishop's impressive residence that many did not leave until 4.30pm, even though the official closing time was at 4pm. There were refreshments, games and stalls available on the day. The event was hosted by St Andrew's Church, and all proceeds will go to St Andrew's Church Funds.
