WELL done to York St John College Students' Union for taking residents' complaints about noise and nuisance seriously.
It is attempting to quieten undergraduate boisterousness with the SSHH campaign (Silent Students equal Happy Homes).
If the patrols, T-shirts, door hangers and lollipops succeed in reducing sound levels, perhaps the union could extend their campaign. The city would be eternally grateful if it were to muffle muzak, reduce roadworks racket and the like. And every time the patrols arrived, onlookers would whisper: "SSHH - you know who..."
