CHILDREN up and down the UK can enjoy the comfort of a hand-crafted quilt, thanks to the efforts of some caring York craftswomen.

The Clementhorpe-based White Rose Quilters recently spent a session making quilts specially for Project Linus UK.

Named after the famous Peanuts cartoon strip character, Linus, who was never without his security blanket, the project donates quilts to causes including, hospices and womens' refuges.

Quilters chairman Helen Mott said: "I suggested to our members that we make some for Project Linus and they were only too happy to do it.

"We enjoy making the quilts and we saw a way to help out a very good cause."

Helen said the group was always happy to accept new members.

"Come along to a meeting and join in. Quilting is great, it is relaxing, it chills you out," she added.

The White Rose Quilters meet at 7.30pm, on the fourth Wednesday of every month, in St Chad's Church, Campleshon Road, York. For more details ring 01904 764591.
