PUPILS at Canon Lee School, in York, hope to have raised £1,000 during a day of citizenship-related fundraising.
Up to 120 balloons were released as part of the event, which was organised by the school's Active Citizens In Schools (ACIS) group.
Students in years seven and eight, aged between 12 and 13, took part in a non-uniform day. A cake stall was held, and competitions including one to name a teddy bear took place.
Money raised by the day will be given to the Jeans For Genes charity, which supports Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital in London.
ACIS co-ordinator Marilyn Shersby said: "It was a brilliant day. The young people thoroughly enjoyed it."
