Selby Town made it three wins in a row in the Northern Counties East League premier division with a 1-0 victory over North Yorkshire rivals Pickering Town at Flaxley Road.

And the points mean Selby, who had opened their league campaign with six straight defeats, now climb off the foot of the table.

But while the Robins celebrate their turn around in fortune, Pickering have been left at the bottom of the premier division standings after this defeat.

Selby got off to an encouraging start before they finally took the lead after 33 minutes when a Alan Jackson cross was turned in at the near post by Andy Cygan.

Selby went close to increasing their lead just before the break when Nigel Oldfield volleyed just wide after a flowing move

Selby were in control for most of the second half but they could not turn their superiority into goals. Pickering rarely threatened a solid looking Selby defence which was well marshalled by skipper Dominic Moyles.

Selby are in league action again on Tuesday when they travel to Garforth Town (kick-off 7.45).

In division one, Tadcaster Albion remain adrift at the bottom after they slumped to a 2-1 defeat against Hatfield Main.

But Taddy will take heart from the fact they made the table-toppers work all the way for the points.

Dave Phipps and Shaun Fox had given Hatfield a 2-0 lead, but Gareth Williams' strike ten minutes from time ensured a tense finish.

Harrogate Town boss John Reed will go back to the drawing board after seeing his side slump into the bottom three of the UniBond League premier division after their 3-1 defeat by Lancaster.

Having beaten unbeaten league leaders Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup, confidence was high that the club had managed to turn the corner.

And although they led 1-0 at half-time through Scott Bonsall's strike, Lancaster struck back with a three-goal second-half salvo.
