SCHOOLS and churches in Sherburn-in-Elmet are celebrating a cash boost.
The Sherburn Gala Committee has divided the £1,200 raised at May's gala between three churches and three schools in the area.
Sherburn High School, Athelstan Primary School and South Milford Primary School all received £200 each. Cheques for £200 were also given to Sherburn-in-Elmet Methodist Church, St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church and All Saints' Church.
Committee member Alma Hodgson said the committee thought this was the best way of making sure the proceeds from the gala were spent on the whole community.
She said: "They were all very pleased that we had chosen to give them the money."
The two primary schools had already decided to spend the money on computer equipment.
