THE Rugby World Cup could be coming to Yorkshire if the Rugby Football Union's innovative plans for the 2007 competition get the nod.
The RFU revealed yesterday their plans to run a 16-nation World Cup and a 32-strong Nations Cup concurrently -- with more than 100 games played at 70 grounds throughout the country to host the games.
The proposal has named Headingley and the McAlpine Stadium in Huddersfield as two of the 16 venues for the World Cup, while Otley and Doncaster have been included in a list of 54 grounds for the Nations Cup.
England's bid to hold the competition for the second time - the RWC was held here back in 1991 - has been submitted to the International Rugby Board for deliberation, with France as the main contenders.
