A FOUNDATION stone for a new learning centre at York St John's College was laid by Archbishop of York, Dr David Hope.
The learning centre, due for completion in April next year, will include a sports science, psychology and health studies building and a new general teaching block.
Facilities within the new building will include a sports hall, fitness suite, lecture and seminar rooms, a new library, more IT workstations and physiology, psychology and biomechanics laboratories.
The college's principal, Dianne Willcocks, said: "It is extremely rewarding to see these new buildings in various stages of development.
"Work is on schedule and construction continues apace. It is a great honour to welcome the Archbishop of York to take part in the project and we are delighted that he has agreed to join us for this memorable occasion."
The foundation stone will eventually be included in the reception area of the new learning centre.
