Acomb men's first team continued their good start in division one of the Yorkshire League with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over a young Hull II.

Two first-half set-pieces secured all three points for Acomb, the first a Jamie Robinson short corner at the second attempt and the second a Matt Dickenson penalty stroke.

Acomb should have added more goals in the second half when both Jamie Robinson and Nick Linfoot failed to convert chances with only the 'keeper to beat.

Hull's fitness gave them the upper hand midway through the half but solid defending from Stuart Baxter and Matt Dickenson and a fine penalty stroke save from Mike Brown earned Acomb their first clean sheet of the season.

Acomb II moved into second place in division nine with a 3-1 victory over Ben Rhydding VI.

York St John's Men's I triumphed at home against Ben Rhydding VII despite only having eight players.

The students mounted a sustained attack on the Ben Rhydding defence and scored four times before half-time and ran out 7-0 winners.

Scorers were Tom Carter (3), James Redpath (2) and Mark Betts (2).
