A would-be burglar was seen trying to break into a student's room at Derwent College on the University of York campus, in Heslington, at about 7.45pm last night.
He was described as white, 5ft 10ins tall, medium build, with light brown hair. He was wearing a grey/blue sports jacket and dark trousers. Meanwhile, thieves forced a rear kitchen window at a house in The Old Village, Huntington, and stole two handbags.
