Selby kept in touch with the leaders in Yorkshire One with a 24-11 defeat of fellow mid-table side Dinnington.

The visitors to Sandhill Lane took the lead after quarter of an hour and held the advantage at half-time but once the home side went ahead ten minutes into the second half, Selby never looked back.

Lax missed a penalty for Dinnington before crossing the whitewash himself for a try he was unable to convert.

Four minutes later Selby stand-off Ray Adamson missed a 45-metre penalty but was on target to convert a try by scrum-half Mathew Smith, which saw the hosts briefly lead 7-5 before Lax booted the visitors back in front with the last points of the half.

Selby retook the lead after the break when centre Martin Bramley crossed, with Adamson adding the extras, and went 17-8 ahead as Adamson kicked another penalty on 56 minutes.

Lax brought Dinnington back into it with a 65th-minute three-pointer but the game went away from the visitors seven minutes from the final whistle when Selby substitute Duncan Phillips, on just eight minutes earlier for flanker Jim Nicholson, touched down.

Adamson converted and, although he missed a drop goal attempt with two minutes to go, the match was won and he was also named man of the match.
