SELBY District Council's 41 members claimed more than £40,000 in expenses for the three months ending September 30.

The payments comprised special responsibility and basic allowances, but do not include mileage claims.

Top claimant was council leader Dean Howson on £2,475, followed by committee chairmen Jack Crawford, Brian Percival, Roy Wilson and Pat Sutcliffe on £1,650.

Councillors Maurice Patrick, Pam Odell and Mark Crane each claimed £1,237, while the remaining 33 members all claimed £825.
