Acomb Men walloped unbeaten Yorkshire League division one leaders Chapeltown I 3-0 in the first round of the Yorkshire Cup.

The Tangerines capitalised on a slow Chapeltown start and after ten minutes were two up through Stuart Baxter and David Richardson.

Chapeltown finally started to play but Acomb never let them get in a decent shot in the first half.

Nick Linfoot could have put the game beyond Chapeltown but missed with only the 'keeper to beat, but he made no mistake in the second half to make it 3-0 after fine build-up play from Richardson.

Ian Roberton played well for Acomb, whose man of the match was veteran midfielder Dave Timmins (pictured).

The cup victory went some way to restoring confidence in the camp after they crashed 4-0 to Boston Spa the previous day in the YL division one.

But for the goalkeeping exploits of Mike Brown the defeat would have been greater.

Andy Smith scored four goals as Acomb II hammered Grimsby II 6-1 in division nine.

Martin Grainge had a shot cleared off the line in the first half before a solo Smith goal shortly before the break gave Acomb the lead.

Chris Foster and Smith netted before Grimsby pulled one back but Grainge made it 4-1 and Smith netted twice more late on.
