A TWO-DAY forum showcasing talent and innovation in the bioscience industry opened near York today.

Now into its second year, the White Rose Bioscience Forum is organised by Bioscience York and the BioIndustry Association.

It opened in the Central Science Laboratory, at Sand Hutton, and will encourage companies to seek in-depth monitoring sessions to assist them at every stage of their work.

It is also intended to give Yorkshire's bioscience entrepreneurs the chance to meet the UK's leading players in the bioscience world.

Anna Rooke, conference organiser and project manager of Science City York, said: "The forum showcases some of the region's most innovative talent in fields such as plant biotech, drug development and environmental science.

"Crucial to the region's success in fostering bioscience will be encouraging knowledge and understanding of the sector at all levels, particularly in traditionally under-represented groups, such as women.

"We are particularly fortunate that this year's forum, and York's community, has a strong representation of world-class female scientists."
