SHOPPERS at York's new-look Asda store had a star in their eyes today. Kylie Minogue lookalike Faye Richards was on hand at the Monks Cross store, which now boasts a range of new departments, including a photo centre, opticians and one of the largest George clothing departments in the country.
Following the £5 million refurbishment, which has taken five months to complete, shoppers will now be able to take a "travellator" - an escalator without steps - up to the mezzanine floor. Asda has invested £70,000 in a new fleet of trolleys which "click" on to the travellator.
Paul Williamson, general store manager, said: "A lot of hard work has gone into the refurbishment and I would like to congratulate all the colleagues and managers who have worked tirelessly to get the project completed on time. I would also like to say a huge 'thank-you' to our customers for their patience and look forward to welcoming them to the new store."
