YORK RI progressed to the second round of the Yorkshire Shield with, in the end, a comfortable 25-10 over Hessle.
Playing on a narrow park pitch because of a waterlogged first team pitch RI were soon on the attack with good kicking form Nash keeping Hessle pinned in their own half.
Hessle went ahead with their first real attack of the game, a break by centre Stephens giving the home side a 7-0 advantage.
RI reduced the arrears almost immediately when from a ten-metre scrum, the ball slipped out to winger Fox who crossed at the corner.
A penalty apiece just on the break saw Hessle lead 10-8 at half time.
A penalty minutes into the second half saw RI take the lead, an advantage they then extended when, from a line-out on the Hessle line, Chris Austin crashed over.
Excellent kicking by Nash kept any threat from Hessle at bay and it was fitting that Nash had the last word with a try five minutes from time to seal victory.
