WHAT contrasting perceptions of Britain were presented on page eight of the Evening Press (November 6).

On the one hand, reader Laurie Bowditch Snr's letter called non-strikers "fine fellows". Laurie feels Britain would return to greatness by supporting the royal family and under Conservative rule "with true morals of decency". Socialist philosophy is dead, he said, and those who think otherwise should "emigrate to Cuba".

In contrast, Chris Titley's column referred to butler Paul Burrell as a "royal bag carrier and downtrodden servant of a rotten elite". Chris also criticised the Burrell trial judge for protecting the Queen's secrets, and that the Queen's belated recollections were untested.

Personally, I found Laurie Bowditch Snr's views to be rooted in the past, as well as ignorant - how else could he think Tony Blair's Government are socialists. Chris Titley, however, was forward-thinking, and right in his assessment of monarchist lackey Burrell, the cringing establishment (including Blair) and the supercilious self-preserving royal family.

Roll on the revolution, I say!
