A RETIRED vicar who was found hanged in York had been under investigation over child sex abuse allegations, it emerged today.
The Rev Terence King, 69, who was married with three children, moved to York in 1999 after retiring from his job as a vicar in West Yorkshire.
He was found dead in his home in Abbey Street, Clifton, just over a week ago. Police have said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
A spokesman for the Archbishop of York, Dr David Hope, said today that Dr Hope had temporarily withdrawn permission for Mr King to officiate at services after being informed of the investigation.
"The Archbishop is aware of the police investigation but is not able to comment at the present time," he said.
"Dr Hope has asked to be kept fully informed on the case as it develops."
