TICKETS were today being snapped up for a series of popular carol events at a city centre museum.

York Castle Museum will again be hosting Carols in Kirkgate to raise money for the Lord Mayor of York's Christmas Cheer Fund.

The Museum's Victorian street will be transformed into an atmospheric winter scene, complete with a choir in costume, for the December concerts.

The event proved so popular last year that it sold out within days and tickets, which went on sale today, were being strictly limited this year to four per person.

Pupils from Hempland Primary School are to perform alongside the York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir, the Kirkgate Singers and Kirkgate Ladies.

Charlotte Dootson, of York Museums Trust, said: "It's always a wonderful experience and a wonderful York tradition not to be missed."

Carols in Kirkgate takes place from 8pm on Wednesday, December 4, to Saturday, December 7, and on Tuesday, December 10.

The tickets, which are available to residents and non-residents, cost £6.50 and can be obtained from the York Castle Museum reception.
