POLICE bail has been extended for retired York psychiatrist Michael Haslam, pending further inquiries into allegations of sexual assault.
The former Clifton Hospital consultant, from Crayke, near Easingwold, was arrested and questioned in September, reportedly following a number of complaints from former patients.
He had been bailed to go back to York police station yesterday, but a police spokesman said bail had been renewed to December 10.
Dr Haslam, 68, is one of two former North Yorkshire psychiatrists at the centre of an independent inquiry set up last year by Health Secretary Alan Milburn. The inquiry will examine the way the NHS handled complaints against Dr Haslam and another former Clifton Hospital consultant, William Kerr.
