The car driver, who was released by firefighters, had serious injuries.
The accident happened at 5.30am on the A1, near Boston Spa, West Yorkshire.
Last night, drivers on the A64 near York faced rush-hour delays after a crash blocked part of the carriageway and left three people injured.
Police said Alex Belton, 21, from Scarborough, was taken to York District Hospital with serious injuries after the car he was driving was involved in a collision with another car at about 4.10pm, near the turn-off for Welburn.
His passenger, Gareth Edwards, 29, also from Scarborough, and the driver of the other car, Marjorie Connolly, 76, from Flaxton, were taken to York District Hospital with minor injuries.
The crash partially blocked the westbound carriageway, and the scene was not cleared until just after 6pm.
