POLICE working for a nationwide investigation into internet child abuse arrested eight men in swoops across North Yorkshire today.
Detectives struck in a series of co-ordinated raids and arrested men from York, Ryedale, Selby, Harrogate, Northallerton, Scarborough and Craven.
Police seized computers and computer equipment during the raids, which form part of Operation Ore, a countrywide probe into child abuse and indecency using the internet as a means of getting access to, or distributing, indecent and abusive material.
All those arrested were tonight being interviewed by police.
Detective Inspector Alan Rose, the man leading the North Yorkshire arm of Operation Ore, said: "We have been developing intelligence for some time and have now moved to take action against those we have identified.
"We will take a very firm stance when policing incidents of child abuse or the distribution of material depicting child abuse, wherever that abuse or indecency may occur."
