FRED Walker, who was deputy city architect for the York Corporation for 30 years, has died at the aged of 89.
Mr Walker, who was known as "Freddy", died peacefully at home in Rotherham after a long illness.
He joined the York Corporation - the local authority as it was then - in January, 1947.
During his career he worked on numerous school, housing and other municipal projects. He retired from the job in 1976.
He also taught architecture at the then Arts School at the back of the city's art gallery.
Mr Walker left the city in 1997, after living here for more than 50 years, and moved to Rotherham to be near his family as his health declined.
He leaves a widow, Peggy, four daughters, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
