AS regular as Christmas are the grumbles that the festive season starts earlier every year.
But in York we are relatively restrained: next week's Christmas lights switch on comes a full fortnight after Middlesbrough was lit up.
Some will insist that even the end of November is too early to contemplate Christmas. Nonsense. When a heavenly lights display, the Leonid meteor shower, fails to penetrate the English winter gloom, we need some man-made illuminations to brighten the long nights.
