In the latest round of YCA matches, York 'A' finally struck the form they are capable of, writes Paul Hopwood.

Strengthened by the inclusion of Dave Wise and Norman Stephenson, York ran out emphatic 7-1 winners with the victories coming from David Adams, Paul Townsend, Dave Wise, Norman Stephenson, Jon Griffith and Fahad Yousif, with the draws coming from Tony Slinger and Paul Hopwood.

The 'B' team turned in another noteworthy performance, but still went down 6-2 to Hull 'A'.

Once again York's star performer was Tim Turner on top board as he produced another excellent performance to beat Hull's top player, John Cooper. Elsewhere, there were draws for Paul Johnson and Patrick Gower and indeed the match could have been closer as York held good positions on other boards, but were unable to hold them in the quickplay finish.

York 'C' had a very tough match against Harrogate 'B', eventually prevailing as 4-3 winners. Once again it was the top boards that did the damage for York, with Richard Hardy, David Findlay, Eric Winn and Neville Pearce registering full points, with Mick Beavers scoring the crucial draw on bottom board to wrap up the tie.

In the remaining fixture, the 'D' team scored an excellent 5-2 win over Wakefield 'B'.

Steve Huxley showed a welcome return to form with a win on top board, which was complimented by further wins from Graham Marshall, Tom Anderson, Bill Fulton and James Carpenter, who is making his return to York Chess after university.

Rodney Mitchinson scored the draw.
