PARTS of a York road will have to be closed next week for strengthening work to be carried out.
City of York Council will be working on the carriageway in Manor Lane, Rawcliffe, for four weeks from Monday.
The contractor, Tarmac Ltd National Contracting, will excavate various areas of carriageway that have deteriorated and reconstruct them with new Tarmac.
The strengthening work will be carried out in two phases. Phase one will be from Shipton Road to Kensington Road and phase two from Kensington Road to Holyrood Drive.
Each phase will take two weeks to complete and during this time the affected section will be closed to through traffic.
A signed diversion route along Howard Drive and Manor Park Road will be in operation for the duration of the work.
Advance notification signs will be erected at the roadside for the benefit of road users.
The works are part of City of York Council's improvements to highways funded through the Local Transport Plan.
Ray Chaplin, head of engineering consultancy, said: "During this period the contractor will also be resurfacing two sections of Shipton Road (the A19) either side of the Park & Ride entrance.
"The resurfacing in Shipton Road will be carried out during the evenings of December 8, 9, 10 and 18, 19, 20, between 7.30pm and midnight, to reduce the risk of potential traffic problems."
