VILLAGERS who could be forced to pay to drive into their own homes have met to plan their next move.
About 50 homeowners in Main Street, Sutton-on-the-Forest, held a meeting last night after they learned they may be charged to cross grass verges outside their homes.
Their houses are fronted by grassed areas registered as common land. Government law means the landowner - Sir George Wombwell, of Newburgh Priory, has the right to charge people who wish to drive vehicles across the verges.
Parish council clerk Dr Derek Jacobs said villagers would be approaching Sir George to see what he wants to charge.
