TEMPERATURES are set to plummet across North and East Yorkshire, as the UK is hit by a cold spell currently affecting Scandinavia.
During the rest of the week temperatures are set to get progressively colder, hitting the 5C mark on Friday - just below average for the time of year.
Then over the weekend the real wintry weather will set in and winds from the east and north-east will start to bite.
From next week the temperatures are expected to dip even further with the wind chill making it feel freezing.
Hail and sleet showers are also anticipated with snow expected to cover the North York Moors.
