YOUNGSTERS from Derwent Infant School, York, helped the environment by planting eight new trees in the school grounds.
As part of the citizenship curriculum, the children helped parents at the planting ceremony, which was attended by ward councillor David Wilde.
The trees, which were donated by City of York Council, were planted to commemorate the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
Teacher Sue Hoban said the children enjoyed the planting and were taught how the project was a long-term commitment which would see the trees growing in the years to come. The next part of the project will be the planting of 300 bulbs by the children around the new trees.
