LEGENDARY cricket umpire Dickie Bird swooped into York today to sign copies of his new book, Dickie Bird's Britain.
The blunt 69-year-old Yorkshireman travelled all over Britain to comment on our most famous landmarks and sporting occasions in the new book.
Dickie, whose autobiography has boasted sales of more than one million, signed copies of his new offering for Christmas shoppers at WH Smith in Coney Street.
York is well featured in the book, with the retired umpire singing the praises of the Minster and York Racecourse.
He told the Evening Press: "York is a beautiful city. I used to come here with Barnsley when I played in the Yorkshire cricket league as a lad.
"The British public seem to have really taken to me, judging by the amount my autobiography has sold."
