AS your own letters page has clearly shown, there are a variety of arguments for and against the reopening of the railway station at Haxby.

I note that Dale Edwards writes from Bootham (November 25).

I have simply voiced the concerns of certain constituents in Haxby who are deeply worried about the proposals and who have contacted me as their local MP. Stations such as the one in Haxby must only be reopened if they have a fully sustainable future.

What I would also add is that before my appointment as a member of the Shadow transport team, I had been Conservative transport spokesman in the European Parliament and served on the Commons Transport Select Committee.

I continue to chair the Commons All-Party Transport Infrastructure Group and I am vice-chair of the All Party Aviation Group.

I have always taken an interest in transport matters relevant to the Vale of York and wider afield, and I will continue to do so.

Miss Anne McIntosh MP,

House of Commons, London.

...FOLLOWING Steve Carroll's article 'Plea to watchdogs on new stations', could I bring up the possibility of the re-instatement of the Malton-Whitby line? This has been mentioned. I wonder where does this service fit in to the equation if it becomes a new link. How will the project then work?

Keith Chapman,

Custance Walk,

St Benedict Road,

Nunnery Lane,

York.
