Selby'S Citizens' Advice Bureau is the first in the north to become computerised.

Its office, in Park Street, is one of only three showcase bureaux in the country now storing all its records on computer.

Selby CAB went fully electronic yesterday -- just one of the changes brought in by the new bureau manager John Garner, who took over earlier this month.

Mr Garner, 28, said: "Everything up to now has been recorded on paper, which has always led to problems with storage.

"This new system will streamline the advice service, hopefully freeing up existing staff to see more of the public."

Mr Garner, who took over from Mark Rounding, began as an unpaid CAB volunteer two-and-a-half years ago after five years working as a landscape gardener.

He says he is keen to recruit more volunteers as they look to increase their workload, not only in Selby itself but across the district. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer should contact John Garner or Kathy Martin on 01757 701320.
