Heworth Under-16s cruised into the second round of the Yorkshire League Cup with an impressive 47-2 victory at division three leaders Kippax.

With skipper Liam Stagnell orchestrating play, Kippax were chasing shadows as dummy runners created gaps for the tries to be scored.

Matt Derry showed power and pace to notch five tries, while Marcus Allan scored three plus six goals. But it was no two-man show, with all the team contributing.

Chris Varley moved to hooker and gave them width, Joel Gardner worked hard and Chris Taylor enjoyed his best game for the side. The scoring was completed by Liam Watling and Tom Holden tries and a 40-metre drop goal from Sean Coulson.

Heworth U14s proved too strong for visitors Dewsbury Celtic with an impressive 46-16 victory.

The game was stopped for 20 minutes when Imi Lewis was injured in scoring - he was allowed home after hospital treatment.

The excellent Steve Huller scored four tries for the first time, with other tries coming from Gareth Watson, Jamie Pallister and Stirling Mackerall, while Ben Potter booted seven goals.

Greg Marshall and Steve Campton excelled in defence and newcomer Craig Winskill showed some neat attacking touches.

Tom Hill shone but could not stop York Acorn U16s throwing away an 18-16 lead to lose 26-22 to Newsome Panthers.

Craig Dinsdale, Leigh Rientoul, Martin Schofield and Simon Wadsworth scored tries with Tom Dunmore kicking three goals.

New Earswick U13s paid the price for a lack of ideas near the line to lose 12-4 to Dewsbury Moor.

Dan Atkinson and Jack Sinclair's runs down the middle were wasted by poor finishing, Chris Penrose's try in the corner being All Blacks' only reward.

Periods of indiscpline by York Acorn U12s allowed Gateshead Panthers to get into the game but Acorn generally dominated to win 20-18.

Carl Fernandez (2), Dave Magson and Danny Whittiker crossed, with Ryan Richardson adding two goals, while Gary Sissons, Nathan Potter and Danny Whittiker also did well.

Garforth scored some good tries down the wings but were flattered by the 42-16 scoreline against New Earswick All Blacks U10s.

James Leaf got a hat-trick and Jake Atkinson a try, but All Blacks couldn't turn their possession when on top into more points.
