Tadcaster Schools' girls finished third in the final of the English Schools' Cross-Country Cup at Northwich, Cheshire.

It was the highest-ever placing by a North Yorkshire school.

They were led home by Nicola Lampard, who finished 11th, followed by Charlotte Maxted (18th) and backed up by Lauren Mason (45th), Nina Batt (51st), Rhiannon Parsons (92nd) and Kate Hollier, who was 106th out of 140 runners.

Emma Macalister-Hall (St Peter's) had an magnificent run to finish third, while team-mate Hannah Punnett came home in 57th. The rest of the St Peter's team were all suffering from illness with two of their runners being unable to compete. But Katie Mellor (64th) and Sophie Cuthbertson (72nd) did well to complete a scoring team which finished 14th. Late reserve Katherine Miller was 96th.

FOOTBALL

Clifton Without have been crowned North Yorkshire Six-A-Side football champions for the third time in the last seven years.

The York school beat Harrogate champions Pannal 1-0 in the county final and go forward to the North of England finals to played in February.

Clifton Without had qualified by finishing as runners-up in York but dominated their group without conceding a goal.

York champions Robert Wilkinson (Strensall) left it too late, needing to beat eventual finalists Pannal in the final group game to qualify. After several good chances, including hitting the crossbar, Pannal survived to draw 0-0 and topped the group by a point from Robert Wilkinson.

York Schools Under-11s produced an outstanding performance to demolish Bradford 6-2 at York Sixth Form College.

York were 6-0 up after just 20 minutes. Tom Corner opened the scoring after five minutes after good work in midfield by Jamie Hopcut. York then cut loose with goals by Marco Shepherd, Jamie Hopcut, Gary Chapman and two from Murray McClusker.

Two consolation goals were scored by Bradford in the second half.

York U13s had a 1-0 home win over Bradford, while the U12s were beaten 5-1 by Bradford.

The Under-11s will look to continue their 100 per cent record at home to Scarborough this coming Saturday, December 14, kick off 10.30am. All players are to attend this game at 9.45am at York Sixth Form College ground, Sim Balk Lane.

The U12s are also at home to Scarborough, while the U13s, U14s and U15s entertain Grimsby.

North Yorkshire Schools netballers managed just a couple of victories in their games against Cheshire and North Durham at Joseph Rowntree School.

North Yorkshire results: Under 18s v Cheshire lost 15-38; Under 16s v Cheshire lost 15-37; Under 14s 'A' v Cheshire lost 18-27; Under 14s 'B' v Cheshire lost 21-23; Under 18s v N Durham won 44-9; Under 16s v N Durham lost 21-41; Under 14s 'A' v N Durham lost 14-31; Under 14s 'B' v N Durham won 33-11.
