A MAN who foiled an attempted burglary was injured as he chased after the alleged offender and tackled him in the street.

The man, who has not been named by police, was scratched and cut by a sharp instrument as he fought with the alleged intruder, although he did not require hospital treatment.

The incident happened at about 5.15pm on Tuesday, when a man was seen entering a private garden at a house in Helmsley. He was spotted by the homeowner's friend, who stopped and challenged him. The offender ran off and was chased to the rear of the Meeting House, where he was caught and where police say a scuffle took place.

The man, who is white, about 5ft 10in tall and of slim build, then ran off. He was wearing dark clothing and may have had an injury to his left cheek.
