FIVE wards at York District Hospital today remained closed to new admissions, although no new cases of winter vomiting virus have been reported.
Fifty-five patients and nine members of staff are still suffering symptoms of the virus, which first struck last Friday.
The virus, which has yet to be identified by laboratory tests, comes after last month's outbreak of Norwalk, which affected more than 200 patients and staff and closed seven wards.
Meanwhile, two mental health wards at Bootham Park Hospital remained closed to admissions today after five cases of Norwalk were confirmed.
All five patients are on Ward Six but a member of staff on nearby Ward Five, which had been closed as a precaution, was said to be showing possible symptoms of the virus.
