Yetton Trophy defending champions York beat Ryedale 76-52 thanks to Linda Harrison, Melanie Brooke, Joyce Chelin and Norma Reed losing only four ends at Ryedale as they overwhelmed Pam Bayes' team 27-6.

Pat Napier, Trish Harrison, June Clayton and Dot Kennelly were leading 13-12 with three ends to play, but the home side won each one and took the game 16-13.

There were also two close games at home, Carol Instone, Sue Kirkpatrick, Sue Tomlinson and Joan Jackson scoring a three on the last end to win 20-16, and Helen Walker, Maureen Walker, Ena Neal and Madge Zimnoch winning 16-14 after being 13-10 behind with 14 ends gone in a game where singles were scored on all but five ends.

New Earswick missed out on playing the champions in the next round when they went down 98-68 to Scarborough.

Playing at home, Maureen Wood, Moyra Headley, Kath Hardcastle and Pat Walker lost the first end but were 17-1 up with nine ends gone and went on to win 29-13.

Jean Bartnett, Kath Sykes, Clarice Robinson and Pat Storey lost nine successive ends to trail 21-5 and lost their game 28-10.

At Scarborough, Brenda Keller, Lyz Jerrum, Barbara Brigham and Norah Clarkson were on the end of a seven, six and a five as they lost 39-12, though the rink of Margaret Moss, Jeanette Coulson, Shirley Hopwood and Dot Kay nearly pulled off a win after trailing 18-11 with four ends to go. They won all four but went down 18-17.

York moved into the sixth round of the Denny Cup after beating Metrodome 88-67. York won all four rinks.

Playing at home, David Stroughair, Dave Hewick, Barry Walker and Philip Scott scored a six on the second end to set them on their way to a 26-12 victory.

Stuart Bryan, Michael Bruce, Liam Cahill and John Walker were winning 17-10 with four ends to go, but lost the next three to make the score 17-17 going into the last end, where they scored a single to win the game 18-17.

At Barnsley, Paul Mooring, Phil Emmerson, Graham Brooke and Graham Instone scored a four and a single on the last two ends to win 22-19.

Iain Boyle, Frank Turner, Ted Boyle and Phil Parsons were trailing 13-11 after 15 ends but scored 11 shots, including a five, in winning the next four ends and triumphed 22-19.

York now play Leicester on Saturday, December 21, starting at 10am.

New Earswick won an extra end in an exciting EIBA Over 60s Double Rink game against a strong York 'B' side at Huntington Road.

Bob Edwards, Barry Johnson, Bob Howland and Mick Stannard led Fred Clayden, Peter Long, Peter Littlewood and Ken Patterson 10-0 after only five ends.

The visitors clawed their way back into the game to trail 18-15 after 17 ends, then a run of three winning ends gave the initiative back to the home side. However, a single to York on the last end gave the final score of 22-16.

On the other rink York's Frank Turner, Brian Thomas, Barry Walker and Norman Vause were beating Ken Harrison, Colin Fawcett, Alf Lewis and Ken Lippett 18-8 after 15 ends.

The home team won four of the last six ends, picking up two shots on the last end to lose by six.

This took the game into an extra end which saw the home side win by three shots and Edwards. rink win by one shot.

York Ladies beat New Earswick Ladies, winning three rinks in the Yorkshire Ladies Indoor Bowls League.

At Thanet Road, Sue Chilton, Sheila Turpin, Ann Redhead and Madge Zimnoch led Jean Bartnett, Peg Walker, Audrey Shingles and Pat Storey 11-10 after 16 ends.

The home side pulled away with four winning ends, scoring ten shots, including a five, to lead 21-10 going into the last end, where the visitors picked up a two.

Carol Instone, Trish Harrison, Sue Tomlinson and Joan Jackson always had the edge against Brenda Keller, Lyz Jerrum, Barbara Brigham and Dot Kay, but were pegged back late in the game as the visitors turned a 14-6 score into 14-12 before Instone's team gained seven shots on the last three ends to win 21-12.

At Huntington Road, Helen Walker, Maureen Walker, Marilyn Andrews and Michelle Mooring beat Maureen Cooper, Shirley Hopwood, Kath Hardcastle and Margaret Blows 23-9.

New Earswick's only success was Maureen Wood, Moyra Headley, Mavis Hardcastle and Pat Walker beating Linda Harrison, Betty Richardson, Norma Reed and Dot Kennelly 22-17 after leading 9-0 with only four ends gone.

Harrison's team pulled back to lead 15-14 after 14 ends, but then the home side won all but the last end to win 22-17. York got eight points to New Earswick's two.
