A YORK charity's festive fundraising efforts have got off to a "roaring start" thanks to an event at a city department store.
Brown's, in Davygate, raised £734.10 with a tombola during a customer privilege evening, and then the store rounded up the total to £800.
The cash will go to the MS Society's Woodlands Respite Care Centre in Thief Lane, off Hull Road.
Its general manger, Vanessa Lindsay Smith, said: "We are extremely grateful for the support of Brown's, and cannot thank them enough for all their help organising the tombola and for topping up the final amount to make sure our Christmas fundraising campaign gets off to a roaring start."
All the prizes for the tombola were donated by local shops and companies, and one of the main star prizes was a large, decorated cake made by Brown's resident chef.
