LIGHT-FINGERED drinkers have dampened Christmas spirits at a busy York pub - by stealing part of the "beer" Nativity scene.

Creative staff at the Rook and Gaskill, in Lawrence Street, said they "feel robbed" by the loss of one of the three kings from among their hand-crafted models.

They had spent hours making the light-hearted festive ornaments with York Brewery beer bottles, beer towels and a selection of modelling materials.

Now they are studying CCTV footage to see if they can spot who snatched the figure during a crowded evening session. Posters offering a reward for its return have also been put up around the pub.

Barmaid Kendra Gill, 22, says she hopes the spirit of goodwill at Christmas will encourage whoever took the model to bring it back. "It isn't really worth anything to anyone else, but I made it and we have put a lot of effort into our Christmas decorations," she said.
