HOW cheering to learn that more than 1,100 would-be doctors have applied to join the new Hull York Medical School when it opens next year.
The NHS needs a constant supply of good staff and these keen new entrants will end up in our hospitals and surgeries.
With so many medical dramas on television, from Casualty to ER, it is possible that these new students have been influenced by what they watch.
Mind you, medicine is not all that the TV suggests, as shown by the report elsewhere tonight in which doctors complain that some of their patients smell.
Just occasionally, the healing hand may have to hold the healing nose.
