YORK youngster Ross Divorty has landed the biggest goal of his fledgling career - by being picked for the Great Britain Under-14s rugby league squad.

The New Earswick All Blacks teenager, along with Scarborough pair Billy Parker and Sam Millward, had made it through to the national train-on squad after impressing at local and regional trials.

And Divorty (above) has now been selected for the final squad of 20 players, who, it is planned, will play junior Tests next year.

As reported by the Evening Press, the England Academy last week hit the headlines after beating the Australian Schoolboys in a series for the first time in 30 years, and the likes of Divorty - who already stands at six feet tall - could soon be making a similar mark in what is hoped to be a rosy future for British rugby league.

The back-row forward, though, can claim to have had a head-start in rugby, as his coaches at All Blacks are his father Gary and grandfather Robin.

"He's a little bit exceptional and has got a lot going for him," said Robin.

"He's got a very good attitude, wants to do well in the game and strives to do that."
