WHAT do they put in the water in York to make you all so clever?
That was the question put to York Countdown contestants, Julian Fell and Grace Page, by maths wizard Carol Vorderman, after the final of the popular TV quiz show.
A-level student Julian, pictured, stormed to victory, 112 to 88, and was congratulated by host Richard Whiteley as "probably the best we've ever had".
The 18-year-old, from Woodthorpe, had come up with a string of nine-letter words during the series. In the final, he solved the conundrum - pantomime - in just one second. He said the secret of his success was an electronic Countdown game.
