THE future of Easingwold's community car scheme has been secured, thanks to a council grant.

Nearly £6,000 has been donated by Hambleton Council as part of a countywide annual windfall to help cover rising costs.

The scheme, run by volunteers, offers lifts to residents unable to access public transport to doctor and hospital appointments.

Trips to see relatives or for shopping can also be arranged through the service.

"Easingwold has had this service for a number of years, but costs keep rising," said council head of finance Frank Wilson.

"Every year we award grants to the schemes in an effort to keep them going. They are a vital lifeline for elderly, disabled or sick people living in rural communities."
