A TEENAGED girl reported missing from home is fighting for her life after being involved in a road accident which left two people dead.

The fifteen-year-old girl, who has not yet been named but is from West Yorkshire, is critically ill following the three car pile-up on the A166 at Garrowby Hill, East Yorkshire.

The male driver of the car she was in, a black Vauxhall Vectra, was declared dead at the scene. He was said to be in his 20s and from West Yorkshire.

A 43-year-old woman from Bridlington, who had been a passenger in a red Vauxhall Astra, also died. Another three people received only minor injuries.

"It appears the driver of the Vectra lost control of his car at the top of the hill and crossed to the other side of the road, where he was in collision with a blue Nissan four wheel drive pick-up vehicle," a police spokesman said.

"Subsequently, the Vectra collided with a red Vauxhall Astra that was following behind the pick-up."

The teenager had last been seen at midday on Saturday, only three hours before the accident.

Her parents are at her bedside.

The police spokesman said: "At this stage it is not known why she was travelling in the Vectra in East Yorkshire." Witnesses are urged to call police on 01482 326111.

Meanwhile, two other people died in separate road accidents over the weekend. A 17-year-old youth from the Bedale area was killed after the Toyota Corolla he was driving was in collision with a Ford Focus while travelling on the B6268 Bedale to Masham road on Saturday evening.

The youth was seriously injured and taken to the Friarage Hospital, in Northallerton, where he later died.

The two occupants of the Focus, a 47-year-old woman from Hertfordshire and her 15-year-old daughter, were released from the Friarage after receiving treatment for minor injuries.

An elderly man also died after his Rover and a Volkswagen Polo were in an accident on an unclassified road near Thornton Dale yesterday afternoon.

Two occupants of the Volkswagen were taken to Scarborough General Hospital with minor injuries.

lA car struck the railings of Layerthorpe Bridge in a late-night collision.

The vehicle, believed to be a red Ford Sierra, hit the railings at about 11pm, last night. A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said that two males were seen running away from the car, which was believed to have been stolen.

lA North Yorkshire-based serviceman was still in a critical condition today after suffering severe burns when his car crashed into a wall and caught fire.

Philip Moran, 22, of Keighley, West Yorkshire, who is based at RAF Leeming, was injured when his Peugeot 206 hit a wall on the Tadcaster to Bolton Percy road last Thursday evening, and burst into flames.

Mr Moran is being treated in the burns unit of Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield. Witnesses to the accident should contact PC Peter Tuke on 01609 783131.
