NOT one driver was found to be over the drink-driving limit in York this weekend, said a jubilant city police chief.

Chief superintendent John Lacy, commander of the central police area, said that stringent random tests over Saturday and Saturday had failed to reveal any motorists who were over the limit.

Ch Supt Lacy said one person had been taken to the police station for a subsequent test following an initial positive breath sample, but that second test had proved negative.

He said he was delighted with the results, which followed concerns earlier this month that the message was not getting through.

In November, 38 people were caught drink-driving in York and Selby - well above the average of 12.
