York gained revenge for last season's defeat with a 94-73 win over New Earswick in the Yorkshire Over 55's League division one.

At Thanet Road, there was little between Frank Turner, Fred Clayden, Noel Cammidge and Dudley Williams against Barry Johnson, Colin Fawcett, Ralph Tiplady and Dave Kermode when the score stood at 10-6 after ten ends. But York only lost one more end, scoring 31 shots including a seven on the 12th and a six on the 16th, as they won 41-7.

It was a similar story in the other rink where Barry Walker, Peter Littlewood, Ron Kirkpatrick and Doug Mitchell were playing against Bob Howland, Ken Plowman, Ray Bowman and Dennis Ellis.

The game was evenly poised at 12-10 after 13 ends but then Walker's team won five of the next six, scoring 13 shots to three to put them 25-13 ahead going into the last end where they dropped a single.

Home teams took the games at Huntington Road, with Ken Harrison, Alf Lewis, Peter Ransom and Joe Cooper storming into a 24-2 lead after only 11 ends against Graham Brooke, Tex Stevens, Alwyn Redhead and Ken Patterson.

Thereafter the ends were shared but the damage had already been done with Harrison's team winning 31-10.

In the other rink, Bob Edwards, Alan Spencer, Gordon Storey and Mick Stannard trailed 16-6 after 13 ends to Brian Thomas, Eric Hodgson, Gordon Walker and Norman Vause before scoring a five followed by a two.

With three ends to play they trailed 18-14 but they won them all and took the game 21-18. York picked up eight points, New Earswick six.

In division two, York 'B' secured their second success of the season by beating Ryedale 106-81.

The victory was gained thanks to the home team's 66-20 aggregate win. Ken Ogden, Alan Storey, John Headley and Colin Sharpley led 15-0 after six ends, dropped singles on three of the next four, but then won nine of the last ten ends to take the game 37-7.

Alwyn Johnson, Tom Ellis, Kevin Harris and Dave Holder scored a seven on the eighth end to go 18-3 ahead and with honours being even thereafter the home side won 29-13.

At Ryedale, Geoff Oglesby, Ian Teasdale, Bill Pearson and Ken Hutson came back from dropping a six and trailing 12-7 after ten ends to lead 16-14 after 14 ends. However, they were then hit with a six, five and four to trail 29-16 with four ends to go, the final score being 32-20.

In the other rink, Tony Bryan, Arthur Dunbar, John Berridge and Ken Lewington won the first end with a single but found themselves 13-1 down four ends later. The hosts kept the pressure up to lead 29-11 with four ends to play after which the visitors closed the scores up to 29-20.

York picked up eight points to Ryedale's six.
