YORK'S first citizen today called for his fellow residents to remember those less fortunate themselves as they celebrate Christmas 2002.
The Lord Mayor, Coun David Horton, also invited them to this evening's carol service at 7.30pm in St Helen's Square.
Councillor Horton said: "May I take this opportunity to wish all York citizens a Merry Christmas and a healthy, prosperous and peaceful New Year?
"At the same time I would ask each and every resident to remember the real purpose of Christmas and to spare a thought for those less fortunate than ourselves.
"We often forget those in our society where Christmas celebrations are nothing more than memories of the past."
