HELMSLEY'S Crown Hotel will be missing some iof ts most familiar faces following the retirement of three of its waitresses.

Clocking up 100 years of service between them, Phyllis Pattison, Eileen Carpenter and Barbara Theobald have now folded away their aprons to retire from service.

"It will be strange not going to work. After all there's always company," said Mrs Pattison.

"Nothing much has changed about the job since I joined in 1960 and the people are just as friendly. Many of them have been coming for years themselves."

The three waitresses were taken out for a meal to thank them for their work and given either a necklace or watch as a memento.
